Spartan Fitness MMA Canned Food Drive: The Giving Season

To help out less fortunate families, Spartan Fitness’ annual canned food drive will be donated to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. In 2015, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama distributed 10,000,000 nutritious meals.

For those of us fortunate enough to have a stocked pantry at home, we can take for granted the can of soup on the back of the shelf that could be someone else’s meal. Without projects like these, so many hungry people in our area would be spending the holidays with empty stomachs. It’s crucial that when able, we give back to the less fortunate around us especially during this time of year. Overall, the canned food drive benefits the local community and provides a feel-good opportunity during the holiday season.

Why Food Drives?

1. There are a number of items that people need, the pantries want to provide, but are not always available at the Food Bank. Food Drives increase the supply of high need items such as soup, peanut butter, tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, and personal care items.

2. Food Drive donations can save pantries thousands of dollars a year. A small donation from many adds up to a tremendous amount of food for the hungry.

3. Food drives raise awareness about poverty and the need to advocate for the poor.

4. Food Drives provide creative hands-on projects. The education provided to a child who takes a can out of the cupboard to share with someone who needs it can be far more valuable than putting money in a collection plate. Youth Groups can easily become involved in food collection efforts.

5. Food drives build community so people from a wide range of ages, neighborhoods, churches, schools, and businesses all work together for a common cause.

We are encouraging all of our members to donate as much or as little as you’d like to. To donate, you can drop off cans by the front desk. For every 2 cans that are donated, that specific member will receive a $10 gift card to the Pro Shop!
